Description:

Nak Dara is a Malay term that suggests 'a virgin' or 'wanting a virgin'. It is a solo performance that sheds the multi-faceted representations of a woman’s body, and its intersections with feminine pleasure and erotic agency. Interweaving only the body and batik fabric, Hasyimah Harith immerses herself in the personhood of a Malay-Muslim woman. From cradle to death, these creased pieces of fabric are an accompaniment for femininity through acts of twisting and tying to close the chest, also known as 'kemban'. Programmed by Dance Base in collaboration with Assembly.
