Description:
Festivo Winds return to the Fringe to present a programme of spirited and soulful music with folk influences. First, the joyful sounds of Australian composer Ross Edwards’ The Laughing Moon – a work inspired by Aboriginal music. Next, Eddie McGuire’s atmospheric Celtic Knotwork and Amy Beach’s soothing Pastorale. Ruth Gipps’ Prelude for Bass Clarinet is the penultimate work, featuring Jess Tomlinson. The evening will culminate in a rare performance of Leoš Janácek's masterwork for wind sextet – Mládí. Inspired by scenes of the composers boyhood, it is full of nostalgia, feeling, but also energy and fierce directness.
