Description:
There’s a problematic painting in my house. As inheritances go, 3rd Reich propaganda isn't that straightforward. Right to Left is an attempt to tease open a confusion that entangles the painting, a generalleutnant in the Wehrmacht and my own childhood stories. It’s an essay, a performed essay of actions, art making and narrations. As an artist, academic and essayist, this essay is me seeking to create a microworld, framed in the present and tracing family narratives; trying to re-member and re-position a painting that haunts me.
